Putting listeners to sleep

There are so many different ways to go with songwriting. You can write dance music, where the beat is the most important thing. You can write social message songs, where the lyric is the most important. You can write lullabies, where putting your listener to sleep is the goal.

It’s helpful to identify your goal for each song from the beginning, so you have a guideline to follow. For example, if your goal is a dance-able song, make sure you spend an appropriate amount of time and effort on getting the groove right. It seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how many songwriters get distracted by the least little thing, while giving short shrift to the essence of the song.
