Mentor round table

Face to face with the gatekeepers

I had lunch with six different music industry pros and had a chance to ask any questions I could think of. That’s the idea behind Taxi’s mentor lunches, held during their annual convention.

Here’s how it works. As a Taxi member, I get to go to the convention for free every year. For the price of a lunch, I get to sit down with about 8 other Taxi members and one at a time, a music industry person sits at our table with us and shares information and answers any and all questions.

When I say music industry pros, I’m talking about life-long veterans of the music industry, presidents of record labels, music libraries, top notch producers, A&R people and Taxi screeners.

Over the course of one lunch, I and other Taxi members were able to pick the brains of these folks about how the business works, getting face to face time with some very busy people. You can understand how this is far superior than trying to reach these same people over phone or email.

In some cases we even got our songs into the hands of what could possibly be the right person at the right time.
